ATA Diagnostic Technician 1st, 2nd and 3rd March
Automotive Technician Accreditation is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry, who are commited to an ethical code of conduct.
Light Vehicle Technicians: ATA assessment process
Technicians must pass a series of tests of practical skill (listed below) and an online-knowledge test :
Diagnostic Technician Braking systems Engine electrical systems Engine mechanical Vehicle electrical systems
Plus any 2 of the following tests: Air conditioning Transmission system Wheel alignment and steering

This scheme is run by the Institute of the Motor Industry otherwise known as the I.M.I. Searching the list of Accredited Technicians, you will usually find most are in dealerships. When the accredited technicians at BMW Chester failed to do 90% of the service items on my X3 this year, the I.M.I. said they could not take action Trading Standards, however, did This seems to contradict the above comment.
